Web site Promotion - A few home truths! How easy is it to find your web site on Google? The truth is that unless you have a good position on Google, Google or Google, then you are stuffed! It is a fact that around 90% of all web searches are done on Google, MSN or Yahoo and of those a huge percentage only use Google. So the problem is simple - your web site has to be on the first two or three pages of Google, MSN and Yahoo... forget the rest! Think Google promotion, Yahoo promotion, MSN promotion! But those top organic search engine positions (that is, not sponsored or paid for) are elusive! That's because there's only 30 places on the top three pages of Google (the smart place to be seen), MSN and Yahoo!, and most folk find what they want by page two. Oh, and you are competing with over 80 million other web sites!   So all I have to do is submit my web site? Ah, if only life were so simple! I mentioned that there's only 10 web sites on the first page of each search engine. So simply submitting a site is no guarantee of a good position. You can be sure that the top sites have done their homework, possibly spent a lot of money ensuring that top position, and that's what you are up against. Your web site has to be optimised for the search engines to sit up and see just how important you are!   So what do I do? Some Search engine optimization (SEO) companies promise the earth, with top positions on search engines almost instantly, but chances are those top positions are on search engines that no-one uses, or using key word searches for terms no-one would normally use to find your service. Let me repeat, 90% of all searches are done on Google, MSN or Yahoo, and that's where you need to be. So Google promotion is VERY important. There are lots of dodgy tricks being employed to try and bypass the system, but the guys at Google are not daft, they'll find it and zap you!   Top position is NOT IMPOSSIBLE! Take a small personal site with a simple aim of trying to sell a book or two. Search for 'celtic prayers' on Google choosing the option for the whole web, not just UK, and you'll hopefully see www.faithandworship.com up there in the top few results - the key words fitting exactly what the site is all about.
