> Website Promotion - Getting under the surface!

search engine sageDon't get banned!
Were you aware that using certain words on your website could get you kicked out of search engine listings?

Naturally enough, it's adult words and phrases containing sexual content that are most likely to cause problems, but you can incur the wrath of the search engine spider by using too many instances of particular key words or phrases, or even flooding a page with unrelated keywords to try and play foul!

don't get caughtIf you do that, then the chances are you'll get caught eventually and your site will be red-carded back down the rankings.

Unfortunately, some sites are penalized even though their webmasters didn't try to spam the search engines, but simply because they use a keyword too many times.

Hidden links are another problem. These are links that can be seen by search engine spiders but not by human web surfers:
- White text on a white background (or any other text that has the same color as the background).
- Links that have been changed with CSS so that they are extremely small.
- Linked periods in the middle of a paragraph.
- Links in invisible CSS divs.
If you use links like these on your web pages then you violate Google's quality guidelines and you risk being banned on Google by using these links.
It's likely that Google can detect most hidden links. While some hiding techniques still might work, Google's anti-spam team will probably be able to detect them very soon.

Out of the frame
It's very difficult to get a good rankings on search engines if your web site uses frames, simply because they don't read framed sites very well. Consider re-writing your site if possible if it currently uses frames - it could be well worth the effort.

Becoming popular!
If you have optimized your web page for high search engine positions and it isn't happening, then it is possible that your web site has low link popularity.

Link popularity is a very important factor for all major search engines. If your web site doesn't have good link popularity, it is very difficult to get good search engine rankings.

It's a simple enough concept. The more other web sites link to your web site, the more interesting and important search engines think your site must be. The more web sites link to your web site, the higher your link popularity.

However, as in life not all links are equal, some are more equal than others. Links from important web sites like www.yahoo.com have a greater effect on your link popularity and your search engine rankings.

Submit! Submit!
submitWhen's the best time to submit your website to the search engines? Quite simply when it's ready - when the site has been optimized fully, fit for purpose with all bells and whistles fully functioning.... NOT BEFORE!

No point in submitting a half-finished site because that's what the search engine will see, shrug its shoulders and say 'So...?'

Make sure that your web pages contain enough text and that search engine spiders can find the pages of your web site through normal text links.

Don't go for services that promise you to submit your web site to thousands of search engines. It will only result in thousands of spam messages (don't you just love spam?!). Instead invest some valuable time optimizing your web pages for the really important search engines.

Beyond this, there are extra techniques that can be employed, which involve detailed research on your competitors' websites, and an analysis of their content. This can really reap benefits, and is part of the inexpensive service we offer.
